Imphal, November 22 2012:
The Kharao-Khaorui-Yairum Naga Students' Association, Manipur has conveyed its tough stand against deforestation activities in its area covering villages in eastern Senapati and Western Ukhrul districts.
In the backdrop of global warming posing a threat to the harmonious ecological balance, indulgence in widespread felling of trees and plants in the area is against forest reservation acts and international guidelines on protection of trees and forests, said a statement issued by Z Reithingam, president of KKYNSA.
The statement added that the association is stepping forward to keenly monitor.
It also said that the association is seriously viewing the widespread felling of trees for commercial purpose by some investors and businessmen at Tingshong Leishirim village while warning them to immediately abstain from such unscrupulous activities.
