Imphal, November 22 2010: Reacting strongly to the claim of the Assam Rifles that personnel of 28 AR had arrested a UNLF cadre, identified as Gyaneswor son of late Gourachand of Singjamei Chirom Leikai during a search operation and published in the media on October 17, was nothing but lies and deceit, said the UNLF.

In a statement, the outfit said that H Gyaneswor, a 68 year old man, has nothing to do with either the UNLF or its armed wing the MPA.

This is not something new, said UNLF and recalled the past instances of custodial killings and donning the corpses with over sized camouflage clothings to pass it off as an encounter.

H Gyaneswor was tortured by the AR and later handed over to the police as a UNLF cadre, it alleged.
