MSF set to launch anti-drug drive

The Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has decided to launch a sustained campaign against all intoxicating substances including tobacco products, Speaking to media persons at their Keishamthong Top Leirak office today, MSF vice president RN Koireng said that they would mount a strict vigil on sale and consumption of all intoxicating substances banned under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985.The student body also investigate into utilization of funds sanctioned to NGOs and rehabilitation centres under the National Fund for Control of Drug Abuse.
MSF would monitor transportation and sale of cigar, cigarette, bidi, gutkha, pan masala, khaini and other tobacco products which are all banned under the Indian Tobacco Control Act 2003, RN Koireng said.
MSF would put in extra labour for effective implementation of prohibition on smoking in public places.
Sale of tobacco products within 100 yards of educational institutions would be prohibited.
No shopkeeper should sell tobacco products to persons below 18 years of age.
MSF president Md Serrajuddin said that they have constituted two special teams for effectively carrying out the drive.
He also appealed to all media houses not to publish advertisements related to tobacco products.
