Attack on human rights defender condemned

Imphal, July 25 2014 : The attack on Human Rights Defender has been condemned by the civil society bodies of Moreh .

Remanding the attack of the human rights defender, the press release mentioned that the attack on two civil society organisations such as Centre for Social Development (CSD) and Women Action for Development (WAD) located at Palace Compound, Imphal along with the assault to a woman staff of WAD on July 12 last is really shocking, highly condemnable and calls for immediate and serious action from the authority concerned.

What added to the bizarre is the victim(s) happen to be Human Rights Defenders.

It is very much unbecoming of an elected legislator in the person of Elangbam Chand, MLA, 14-Yaiskul A/C to take law into his own hand and instigate a group of people thereby causing public nuisance.

Such ugly incident should not be left unheeded.

The Civil Society Organisations of Moreh would like to appeal to the authority concerned to investigate the matter thoroughly at the earliest so that suitable lesson is taught to the perpetrators of such unwanted occurrence, it said.
