Tribal body urges State Govt

The Tribal Rights Demand
Committee, Jiribam has appealed to the State
Government to provide assurance that the tribal
land rights would not be violated.
The committee in a statement alleged the
State Government of encroaching on tribal
land on several occasions.
Hill House Tax,
which the tribals of Jiribam have been paying
since the inception of Jiribam sub-division,
has been put to an end without any prior
notification It said that if Jiribam is to
become a full-fledged revenue
district, there would be
disruption of the collective
hand holdings under the tribal
chieftanship system.
The
committee further said that the
tribal populace of Jiribam
would resort to agitation in case
their concerns are neglected.
