Imphal, November 14 2013:
Employees of Manipur State Cooperative Bank staged sit-in-demonstration in front of its Old Assembly Road office today to demand appointment of the bank's Chief Executive Officer.
The protest demonstration was staged under the aegis of Manipur State Cooperative Bank Employees' Association with Association president L Angouba telling newspersons at the protest site that the CEO should be from among the Bank's own cadre officer who fulfils criteria prescribed by the RBI.
Stating that appointment of the CEO would pave the way for the Central Government to release its share of recapitalization assistance amounting to Rs 41.62 crore to the State in the form of grant, the president said release of the pending share would facilitate regeneration, revitalisation and resurgence of 208 primary agricultural cooperative societies in the State.
Informing that a memorandum was signed in June 2008 by the State and Central Governments and NABARD regarding implementation of eight specific programmes, he said inspite of seven of the agreements already undertaken the eight point relating to appointment of a professional CEO remains unfulfilled.
