Imphal, June 29 2012: The proscribed UNLF has refuted any connection whatsoever between the outfit and Laishram Leichin (23) s/o L Punpi of Moreh Ward No 7.However, a press release issued by Assam Rifles and published on June 26 claimed that Laishram Leichin was apprehended together with a 9 mm pistol on the charge of being a Captain of the UNLF.

But a press release issued by the UNLF's senior publicity officer Ksh Yoiheiba contended that the said individual was unknown to the outfit.

A 23 year old youth cannot be a captain of the MPA.

All the cadres who are now holding the rank of Captain have all worked for the UNLF/MPA for 15 years at the minimum, it added.
