Imphal, May 27 2016 :
All Tribal Disables' Union Manipur
(ATDUM) has expressed strong disappointment over the reported
Govt's response to its memorandum seeking nomination of one
disabled person each in every ADC.
In a statement, ATDUM said
that it submitted a representation to the State Govt requesting to
nominate one person from amongst the persons with disabilities in
each ADC.
However, Under Secretary (Hills), Govt of Manipur
sent an information letter dated March 17, 2016 where it mentioned
that 'there is no reservation policy for disabled persons to be nomi-
nated as ADC Members.'
ATDUM said that the union never said that there is a
reservation policy for persons with disabilities, but only re-
quested the Government for nomination as citizens of India
and as they really feel the need.
Since the establishment of
Autonomous District Councils in the State no person with
disabilities has ever been represented/nominated in any ADC
till date and due to non representation of persons with disabili-
ties, they have been facing a great deal of troubles and
difficulties in implementation of development schemes in respect of tribal persons with disabilities in hill areas of
Manipur, it said.
