Transporters demand fare hike

The Imphal East Transport Association has today demanded for increase of fare hike on the ground that the present rate of fare is outdated which was fixed in 2008 by a Government gazette and if the Government is not sympathetic to their demand, they have opted to cease plying vehicle from July 31, 2014 .
Communicating this to reporters in a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, the secretary of the Association Kh Olendro Meitei expressed that the existing passenger fare of outdated in comparison with the cumulative inflation of consumable items for the last five plus years.
He further continued that the existing fare was fixed in 2008 while the cost of the diesel was Rs 33.85 and the present day cost of diesel is Rs 57.87 and further added that the department tax levied by the Transport Department increased 100% over the period of time.
In this matter, he demanded to increase the passenger in accordance with the existing market price index of the human consumables.
