Imphal, October 31 2014 : The Naga People's Organization (NPO) during its presidential council meeting held today at its office chamber resolved to ban the proposed Khongnem � Chakha hydro- electric project.

Reacting strongly against the proposed hydro- electric project in the district that has even threatened the submergence of district headquarters, the NPO stated "The proposed Khongnem-Chakha Hydro-electric project undertaken by the State Govt and NEEPCO will not be allowed to be implemented in the district as it is without the concern and consent of the tribe Hohos, district frontal organization and the land owners" .

On the already sanctioned Nursing institute at Senapati district headquarters, the NPO said, "Even after acquiring the land for the said institution at Senapati district headquarters, there is no sign of construction works being started" .

Urging to expedite the same, the NPO said "Further delay will amount to inviting different forms of agitation against the authorities and the State Govt" .
