Farmers' training held

With an aim
to encourage organic farming
across the State particularly in hill
districts, a one day training pro-
gramme on organic farming and
certification was held at the com-
munity hall of Sirarakhong LM
Block today.
Organised by Garden Care,
Yaiskul Police Lane and
Manipur Organic Mission un-
der the Mission Organic Value
Chain Development in North
East region, resource persons
Dr SS Roy, scientist, ICAR,
Imphal, Dr L Ibomcha Singh,
Manager, Northeast One Cert
Asia Agri Certification(P) Ltd
and N Ajitkumar, Plant Protec-
tion, KVK, Ukhrul stressed on
various ways to take up or-
ganic farming successfully.
L Ibomcha said that pesti-
cides and fertilizers will not
only decrease the natural mois-
ture and nutrients of the soil
but also cause health hazards
after consuming the produce.
Surrounding areas of the
farmlands can also be affected
by the usage pesticides and
artificial fertilizers.
Therefore,
farmers should opt natural fer-
tilizers such as vermicompost
and cow chip, L Ibomcha suggested .
