Imphal, October 18 2011:
In an unprecedented event, onrush of many shoppers to Namphalong market of Myanmar for the Ningol Chakkouba festival caused traffic jam on the roads of Moreh town.
According to information received from Moreh, escorted by security personnel, around 500 vehicles including Maruti Van, Tata Sumo, DI Tata, bus, truck and other private automobiles descended at Moreh at around 2 pm yesterday.
Soon after the arrival of these vehicles, there was total chaos on the roads with no space of manoeuvring.
Imposition of one way traffic system on the roads further compounded that the problem.
Even students returning from schools have difficulty in reaching their homes in time on account of the traffic jam that remained for hours with no sign of any Traffic or Police personnel to control the situation.
As there was not enough space in the parking lot of Moreh town, many vehicles were also seen parking along the road said.
