Imphal, December 27 2024: A wreath laying ceremony was organised by Assam rifles on Friday to honour rifleman Khem Bahadur Thapa, who made the ultimate sacrifice in Jiribam district on December 26, 1997 .

Thapa displayed exceptional bravery when a patrolling team was ambushed.

Despite being injured in a heavy exchange of fire, he pursued the miscreants, saving the lives of his comrades.

He succumbed to his injuries the following day, said a PRO IGAR (S) release, adding that the ceremony, led by the commandant of the unit, was attended by four officers, seven junior commissioned officers and 95 other ranks.
