Imphal, August 20 2015 :
Mapithel dam downstream villagers have threatened to intensify agitation in case the State Government fails to fulfil their demands within August 20 .
Joint Action Committee for Mapithel Downstream has submitted two memorandums - one on July 8 and another on 25) - to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi demanding provision of alternative shelter and means of livelihood to the villagers.
The memorandum submitted on July 25 urged the State Government to make arrangements to provide means of livelihood to the downstream villagers of Mapithel within 10 days from the date of submission however, no plausible step has yet been taken up by the State Government till date.
Setting a deadline for August 20 to meet their demands, JAC chairman Y Thoiba said that they would not only boycott the ongoing construction of Mapithel dam but also start releasing water from the dam in case their demands are not met.
