GOC salutes Shangshak War heroes

Imphal, May 14 2013:
General Officer Commanding 3 Corps Lt Gen AK Sahni, on a two-day visit to 10 Sector Assam Rifles in Somsai since yesterday, laid wreath to the Shangshak War Memorial and paid tribute to the martyrs of Battle of Shangshak who fought with tenacity against the Japanese forces during the World War II.
On this occasion, the GOC also interacted with the ex-servicemen and locals of Shangshak, said a PRO IGAR (S) release.
Interacting with the local youths and appreciating their talents besdies meeting local artisans of Nungbi pottery and handloom cooperative society, the GOC also promised to provide better opportunities to the artistes of Ukhrul.
The GOC, who also interacted with the local dignitaries including Phungyar AC MLA Victor Keishing, was accompanied by Vineeta Sahni, Regional President AWWA, 3 Corps with the latter felicitating the local artistes.
The event was also attended IGAR (S) Maj Gen UK Gurung and Uma Gurung, president ARWWA, IGAR (S), added the release.
