Imphal, November 13 2012: Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services, Government of Manipur has distributed 75 improved variety piglets of 2-3 months old to 25 beneficiaries of chandel district under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana for the year 2009-10, said a statement issued by the Department's Joint Director.

The free of cost piglets distribution programme was held today at the District Veterinary Office, Chandel during which Joint Director Dr Y Rajendro stated that the programme was implemented to boost piggery development for improvement of livelihood of the State's livestock farmers.

Dr Rajendro also called upon the beneficiaries to judiciously utilise the piglets and inculcate habit of piglets replacement after they have grown to that pig rearing could become a viable and sustainable venture.

The Joint Director also stressed on the need for the livestock farmers to consult veterinary experts to ensure timely prevention of livestock diseases.
