Tengnoupal, March 09 2021: Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(South) foiled smuggling attempt of contraband items at Tengnoupal on yesterday.

Based on specific input, at around 09:00 AM, a Tata Sumo bearing registration number NL 01 H 4343 was stopped at Vehicle Check Post, Tengnoupal.

On thorough checking of the vehicle, 99 packets of suspected brown sugar weighing 1.27 kgs worth 2.54 Crores were recovered which were concealed beneath the rear passenger seat with the help of modifications.

The vehicle was being driven by Mr K Dovile,S/O A Kapabni Lali, R/O Senapati, Tadubi, Manipur.

The recovered items were being ferried to Imphal from Moreh.

The detained driver and the recovered items have been handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station for further investigation.
