Imphal, January 08 2014: The Ukhrul District Saw Mill Owners' Association has urged the Chief Secretary to protect valid saw mill licence holders of Ukhrul district and control operation of illegal saw mills in the district under Factory Act, 1948 .

According to a representation submitted to the CS, there are about 30 saw mills in Ukhrul district out of which only three have valid licence.

Illegal felling or supply of timber has increased with the increase of saw mills in the district, the memo highlighted while urging to check and balance the operation of saw mills in the district.
