Imphal, September 04 2014: 22 Assam Rifles of 28 Sector and Thoubal Police Commandos recovered heaps of arms and ammunition during a search operation conducted in the wee hours at Chingjao Island, Thoubal District on September 3 .

The search operation was conducted after intelligence agencies reported about the presence of huge number of arms and ammunition in the area.

Recovered arms and ammunition were one country made 9mm CMG with three magazines; one 9mm pistol with a magazine; one country made revolver; one Chinese hand grenade; two radio sets; seven detonators; one 7.62mm SLR magazine; one 5.56 INSAS magazine; thirty five rounds of 5.56 INSAS; 121 rounds of AK 47, ten 7.62 SLR rounds, thirty four rounds of 9mm, four 45 AC rounds; nine .38mm rounds; thirteen GF Rifles rounds; seventeen 7.65mm rounds and seven single bore rifle rounds.

The recovered items were handed over to Waikhong Police station.
