Imphal, November 24 2010:
Although there are 350 tanker trucks (TTs) registered under Indian Oil Corporation, many of the TTs have been converted into body vehicles as the transportation charge is very less and there is difficult in going only once for lifting fuel in a month.
This is also said to be one of the main causes for shortage of fuel in Manipur.
It is only on record that there are 350 TTs are registered under IOC.
Out of these 350 TTs, only around 200 are in running condition today.
Among these 200 TTs in running condition, 75 others with 20 KL capacity are out of the service for lifting fuel.
Moreover, as the transportation charge given by IOC is very less and there is the possibly of going for lifting fuel for only once or twice at the maximum in the month, most of the TTs have been converted into body vehicles as it is more profitable.
