Imphal, January 20 2013 : Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur (ICHAM) has flayed the disbanding of Special Investigation Unit of the Imphal West District Police after seizure of a huge quantity of drugs worth more than Rs one crore were seized from Imphal airport and subsequent transfer the unit's OC Inspector Ranjit.

Speaking to media persons this afternoon, ICHAM president N Rajendro observed that the unit set up only in May last year succeeded in hauling drugs worth around Rs 10 crores within a short period.

Rajendro demanded revival of the disbanded unit as well as investigation into the drug smuggling cases by an independent body like the CBI.

He also lamented that MLAs of both the ruling and opposition parties did not say a word on the issue.
