Man dies, foul play suspected

Imphal, October 16 2012:
A man who was engaged as sweeper at Wangjing Lamding Keithel in Thoubal district had died in a suspicious manner.
The deceased identified as Soibam Ratan (47) of Wangjing Lamding Keithel was also working as an outreach worker of an NGO.
According to family members, Ratan took a bicycle from his younger sister and went to Khongjom to meet a client.
As he failed to return for a long time, a frantic search was launched and finally Ratan was found half-conscious and physically exhausted at Thoubal police station.
He was only wearing underpants when he was found at the police station.
His hands were also tied in front.
Police claimed that Ratan was handed over to them by people of Khongjom where he was wandering around.
He was rushed to Raj Polyclinic yesterday itself but he passed away this evening.
Injury marks were seen on his left leg and forehead.
Maintaining that they sensed some foul game in the death of Ratan, the family members demanded a thorough enquiry.
