Arms smugglers held

Imphal, March 04 2016 : In a successful operation, troops of 27 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Red Shield Division apprehended four arms smugglers from Torbung, Churachandpur.

According to a statement issued by the PRO of PIB (Defence Wing), based on a specific input regarding the movement of a suspected person from Moirang to Churachandpur with weapons, troops of 7 Assam Rifles immediately launched an operation on Feb 28 at around 8.15 pm to carry out a thorough search of vehicles coming from Moirang to Churachandpur and apprehended four arms smugglers along with a weapon and ammunition.

The apprehended individuals are identified as Thamilan Haokip alias Laxman (35) s/o Manouilien of D Phailien, Churachandpur, Nomingthan (23) s/o Paulen of Sungotojang, Churachandpur, Thanglal Gangte (28) s/o Lhungkhothang of Tuilumjang, Churachandpur and Jangngam Haokip (38) s/o Lunlal of K Thenjang, Churachandpur.

The individuals were apprehended along with one 9 mm pistol (country made) along with magazine, two live rounds of 9 mm, one fired case, one Honda Activa, one purse and cash amount of Rs 1660.The apprehendees along with the recovered items have been handed over to Churachandpur PS, it added.
