Imphal, September 03 2014:
It may be a case of sheer negligence or deliberate foul play but documents and files of different schemes taken up/implemented by Social Welfare Department amounting to Rs 60 crore have gone missing.
A well placed source informed that the Vigilance Commission conducted an investigation about implementation of several schemes whose total cost was around Rs 60 crore but the department could not produce any file or documents regarding utilization of the huge amount.
The said amount was sanctioned/utilized during the financial years 2011-12 and 2012-13.The amount was sanctioned for different State sponsored as well as Central funded schemes.
The Vigilance Commission registered a case in April this year and initiated due investigation.
With all the files and documents missing, a strong suspicion has been raised whether the schemes were not properly implemented or whether the sanctioned funds were misappropriated.
The amount for which files and documents have gone missing pertained to schemes such as ICDS and other schemes related to child welfare, handicapped persons, old age pension, women, nutrition etc, the source added.
