Imphal, December 01 2015: The Gorkhas of Manipur have formed a society named Nepali Language Research and Development Society, Manipur on Dec 13 .

According to a statement issued by the chief convener of NLRDS, the body has been formed to conduct research work and to avail opportunities of learning Nepali in Govt primary and elementary schools by framing necessary curriculum and to approach the State and Central Govt in this regard.

The newly formed body demanded opening of Nepali language cell in the Directorate of Education (S) with appointment of an OSD for promotion of Nepali, a scheduled language.

It also demanded appointment of Nepali language teachers in Govt schools where there are significant (above 25 pc) number of Nepali speaking students.
