5 labourers killed as truck falls into gorge

Imphal, October 04 2015: Five labourers were killed and 13 others injured when a truck fell into a deep gorge last Friday in Nungkao Part-II area under Nungba Police Station of Tamenglong district.

Police sources said that the Tata truck was carrying the labourers of Naiyak Infrastructure Private Limited engaged in railway construction.

The incident took place at around 8 am.

The five persons died on the spot.

Four of the five deceased were brought to JNIMS morgue here and conducted post mortem on Sunday.

Out of the 13 injured, some of them who are in critical condition are undergoing treatment at Silchar Hospital while few of them have been admitted to Jiribam Community Health Centre.

Meanwhile, one Athokpam Dinesh alias Tang (22) s/o A Chaoren of Wairi Mayai Leikai under Lamlai Police Station died on Sunday at around 9.30 am in a road accident.
