Imphal, April 23 2013:
How high is the threat perception of Swine Fever to humans ? This is a question that should worry the people, since the Fever that afflicts pigs has been confirmed.
When The Sangai Express contacted a doctor, who is however not a specialist in this field, he said that Swine Fever may be transmitted to humans but is not as acute or contagious as Avian Influenza.
However anyone afflicted by Swine Fever would develop symptoms of Flu such as fever, sore throat, breathing problem.
The hazardous part is in the handling and not consumption, provided the meat is cooked well, opined the doctor.
Significantly Mizoram has banned the import of pigs from neighbouring Myanmar following the outbreak of Swine Fever or Swine Flu in the State some time back.
