Imphal, October 22 2012: Altogether 700 litres of local liquor were consigned to flames by police and excise personnel today at Yairipok PS in the presence of the public and media persons.

The liquors were seized from the possession of two persons from different places of Thoubal district during a drive conducted by the Police and Excise personnel yesterday.

According to P Ranbir, OC of Yairipok PS, 200 litres of liquor were seized from Sarungbam Keinatombi Devi from Andro Bazar while another 500 litres were seized from Phanjoubam Tiken of Andro Khunou Leikai.

The duo were fined Rs 7000 and Rs 10,000 respectively under Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act, 1991 .

A total of Rs 3,21,150 has been credited to Government exchequer as excise income by Police and Excise departments of Thoubal district since June this year.
