Imphal, January 16, 2011:
The All Manipur Village Defence Force Welfare Union has expressed strong resentment over the alleged paltry monthly honorarium and ration given to them.
Speaking to media persons at a place in Thoubal district today, spokesperson of the Union, who sought anonymity, said that monthly honorarium of just Rs 3000 and ration money of Rs 570 is not enough to meet even the most basic requirements of the family.
On the other hand, police personnel have been given salaries recommended by the 6th Pay Commission besides increasing the ration money to Rs 1000. But both VDF and police personnel have been discharging their duties for equal working hours, that is 24 hours a day.
There is no definite rule whether VDF personnel would get compensation in the event of casualty or death.
Saying that there are around 12,300 VDF personnel in Manipur, the spokesperson appealed to the Government to raise their honorarium at the earliest which should be in sync with the time.
