Guv, CM greetings on Nupi Lan Day

On the occasion of Nupi Lan Day, Governor Gurbachan Jagat and Chief Minister O Ibobi have joined the people of the State in paying tribute and homage to the brave ladies of Manipur who fought against the colonial rule, monopolistic trade practices and feudalism.
The 2nd Nupi Lan is a unique historical episode of Manipur, Governor Gurbachan Jagat said in a message while adding that the incident is a reminder to the people of the courage, sacrifice and patriotism of the women.
"They (women) have come out in the front whenever intractable problems descend on the State besides contributing their mite for the social and economic advancement.
Later on the women tackled social evils also," noted the Governor's message.
He further called upon the people to resolve to work together and harder to make Manipur a more peaceful and prosperous State which will satisfy the souls of those who fought the Nupilan.
Maintaining that Nupi Lan is an unforgettable event in the history of Manipur, Chief Minister O Ibobi said it was an occasion wherein the Manipuri women exhibited to the world that they have the courage and spirit to challenge the then mightiest world power, the British.
The heroic struggle against the British was a rare occasion in the history of mankind, the CM noted while adding it would ever remain as a watermark in the history of Manipur.
