Imphal, August 10 2015:
A sit-in protest demanding enforcement of ILP in the State cum a discussion meeting was jointly organised by Singjamei Torban Kshetri Leikai Apunba Leingak Nupi Lup, women vendors of Singjamei Keithel and women of Singjamei area and Kongba road at Singjamei Keithel today.
A Mobi, president, Editors' Guild, Khoirom Loyalakpa, editor, Naharol Thoudang, Ibochou, editor, Kangla Pao, Advocate Premjit, Chinglen Meisnam, Professor, Manipur University and representatives of JCILPS Students Wing spoke on the ongoing ILP issue during the discussion meeting.
Chinglen Meisnam stated that had the State Government initiated steps to check the influx of illegal immigrants from the early stage, the issue would not be as grievous as now.
"Meghalaya Government was able to detect around 10,9500 Bangladeshis in its State.
While, around 1,500 were penalised, rest of them were sent home.
If Meghalaya Government can undertake such step to save its indigenous people, why has our State Government been hesitant to do the same? With the rising population of illegal immigrants, the State is in the verge of extinction and there is fear that soon the children who have been carrying heavy school bags now might end up being indentured labourers," he added.
