Imphal, March 02 2016:
Protection of Agricultural Land and Natural Resources Organisation (PALNRO) has flayed Revenue Minister Th Debendra for stating in the State Assembly that no complaint has been received regarding construction of houses on agricultural lands.
In a statement, the organisation said that it was unfortunate to overlook emergence of residential colonies and opening of brick factories and schools etc on paddy fields.
Saying that the Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act 2014 is now in force, the organisation questioned whether the Government has sought report from its officials concerned regarding the current state of agricultural lands.
It further said that a Tata tipper, which was found unloading earth for construction works was impounded by locals from Kontha Ahallup Kairang Loukol and handed over to Heingang police station yesterday.
Although, people of these localities had submitted written complaints along with photographs to the authority concerned on many occasions in the past, no action has been initiated against construction of buildings on paddy fields.
