Imphal, February 02 2016:
The Directorate of Health Services (Drug Control Administration) has prohibited the use of Avastin (generic name-Bevacizumab), manufactured by Ms Roche Product (India) Pvt Ltd for treatment of eye ailments through intra-vitrieal route.
The prohibition came after the use of the drug led to the loss of vision in certain patients at Ms CH Nagri Eye Hospital, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, according to a statement issued by the Director of Health Services, Manipur.
The drug is not approved in the country for intra-vitrieal use for ophthalmology purposes.
