AR provides succour to widows

26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) has provided succour in to widows living in remote areas of Chandel District on 03 Sep 14 by helping a widows' organisation to function at Pallel.
According to a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S), the widows who are making bamboo handicrafts, are finding it difficult to make their ends meet.
Sensing the urgency, Assam Rifles, swung into action and chalked out a road map for their improved sustenance.
Speaking to the widows on the occasion, 'Brig Rajiv Chhibber, Commander, 26 Sector Assam Rifles, highlighted the need for them to go commercial and diversify, given the immense talent that existed.
Promotion and sale of the handicrafts, produced was taken on by the Assam Rifles towards increasing their revenue generation.
To kick start the initiative a suitable outlet for selling the products in an organised manner is being provided.
In addition, other projects to include Honey Bee Farming and Green House Projects are also being explored with the singular objective of alleviating the hardships of these widows.
The Commander complimented the widows' group for their intense hard work and their will to achieve and promised that all out efforts shall be made towards sustaining their organisation.
The under privileged widows were ever grateful to the Assam Rifles for this friendly gesture, which shall be a beacon for all such targeted initiatives in the future.
This was yet another people friendly gesture, which shall go a long way in cementing the close ties between the Assam Rifles and the local populace, the PRO added.
