UG cadres attack Assam Rifles

Imphal, August 26 2015: Heavily armed underground cadres attacked the Assam Rifles near Molanghat in Chandel district on August 21.In a statement, PRO HQ IGAR (South) said some UGs cadres attempted to ambush a column of Assam Rifles troops who were on patrol near Molanghat.

As the patrol party approached the ambush site, the UG cadres opened fired upon them besides exploiting two IEDs.

The attack was promptly countered by the security forces.

However, the militants managed to escape by taking the advantage of rugged terrain and bad weather.

Two soldiers who received minor injuries were promptly evacuated to Military Hospital Leimakhong.

The doctor said they are now out of danger.

Later, Assam Rifles conducted massive search operation in the area and recovered eight IEDs along the track.
