Imphal, July 25 2014 : The Human Rights Defender, Manipur staged a sit-in-protest at Keishampat Lairemi today in protest against the issue of privilege motion against the Human Rights Executive Director Babloo Loitongbam and the behaviour of the police towards the student protesters of ILP.

Manipur Legislative Assembly had taken up a privilege motion against Babloo for his remark on the issue of ILP as broadcast in the July 22 evening news on Impact TV.

Sidelining the genuine human rights issues raised and the brutality unleashed on students by law enforcing agencies, the Human rights defenders and organisations of Manipur called for a revocation and withdrawal of the privilege motion.

They further demanded the release of all students detained by the law enforcers and the prosecution of all the officials involved in the brutal act.
