Ukhrul villages inundated

Imphal, August 06 2015:
The Challou River in the Ukhrul District has overflown at several places near Wahong Village.
Some villages like Sorapung, Tushom have been under water since August 2 .
AS Reishim, a social worker of Wahong village told this Reporter that there was a big flood in 1980.However, flood this time is about 60 per cent more than that of 1980 .
This has caused problems to the people of the areas.
The overflowing water from the Challou River is causing more problems.
There is no bridge over the river and there is now no communication among the villagers nearby.
Since the paddy fields at Wahong, Kasom, Soraphung and Tushom are inundated, there will be drastic decrease in the quantum of annual harvest.
He said that the government should look into it.
Meanwhile, the smouldering fire at the Wahong Village has been on for the last two months.
The heavy downpour in the past two days has not been able to douse the fire there, AS Reishim said.
