Sit-in held to protest shooting

Imphal, June 25 2016 : Protesting the alleged life attempt on one Ningthoujam Abung by unidentified armed man early Friday at New Bazar, the Churachandpur Meetei Leikai Youth Club and Women Welfare Association, Khumujamba today held a sit-in- protest at Khumujamba condemning the incident and to appeal to all concerned to prevent such attacks in future.

A scooty borne Abung, a businessman was reportedly shot from his back around 6.30 am in front of his shop at New Bazar by a man who sports a helmet but misses him.

The bullet hit the scooty's meter box and exited at the headlight.

Abung has denied having received any threat or demand till date.

He was a target of a grenade attack on March 31 this year as well.

A grenade had then exploded at the residence of another businessman while an unexploded one was recovered from his residence.

Today's protesters also seek to know the reason behind the repeated attempts on the life of the businessman and urged the attackers to come out in public.

The two organisations have appealed to all to shun such violence in future.
