Imphal, September 05 2014 : Ema Emoinu Thousil Kanglup, Lamlai Chalou organised the 2nd Hiyang Tanaba Festival (2nd Boat Race festival) at Lamlai Salampat today.

BJP Manipur Pradesh President Thounaojam Chaoba, international football player and social worker Khongbantabam Ibomcha and social worker Sushindro (Yaima) graced the festival as chief guest, president, special guest and guest of honour respectively.

Th Chaoba inaugurated the festival by lighting up the ceremonial lamp.

While speaking at the function, Th Chaoba said that boat race is an integral part of Manipuri culture.

Manipuris have been organising traditional boat competitions during Heikhru Hidongba festival, which generally falls in September.

Saying that the festival has close affinity with the culture of Manipur, Chaoba stressed on the need to preserve this tradition.
