Imphal, August 31 2016: Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh (Manipur State branch) observed Balidan Diwas (Martyrs' Day) on August 25 at Charhajare community hall graced by Sekmai MLA Kh Devendro, BGP Manipur State branch president Devi Prashad Shivakoti, Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills president Seimang Khongsai, ADC mem- ber Thangminlen Kipgen and LNC Manipur president Machungdabou Ringkhangmai as the chief guest, functional presi- dent and guests of honour respectively.

The main objective of observing the day was to pay hom- age and rice tribute to Sahid Major Durga Malla who was hung by the British on August 25, 1844 for waging war against them.

Floral tributes were also paid to Subedar Niranjan Singh Chhetri, Paona Brajabashi, Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal General and others martyrs along with presentation of cultural dance like "Khukuri Dance", said a statement issued by BGP, Manipur State branch.
