Imphal, September 18 2015 : A 25 year old youth was killed when he was knocked down by a Maruti van at around 9.30 pm of September 16 near Tera Moirang Hanuba Mamang Leirak along Imphal-Jiribam highway.

The deceased has been identified as Longjam Alex (25) s/o late Shyamo of Takyel Kolom Leikai.

While Alex was killed on the spot, the van driver lost control and he hit an electric pole at Patsoi.

As a result, the driver and two other people travelling in the van sustained injuries.

It is said that the van hit another man before knocking down Alex.

Alex's body has been handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS yesterday.

In connection with the incident, a case has been registered at Lamphel police station.

Meanwhile, identities of the people killed when a Tata Sumo jeep fell into a gorge at Awangkhul on Wednesday along Imphal-Jiribam highway have been established.

Post mortem of all the bodies was done today at JNIMS before they were handed over to respective families.

Sapam Sushil Kumar of Kongba Nongthombam Leikai, Dilbahar Majumdar (19) from Silchar and Sumo driver Barel Chowdhury (25) of Jirighat too sustained injuries.

While Sushil Kumar is undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital, the other two have been admitted in RIMS.
