Imphal, September 03 2017: In view of the people who have been relying on Loktak Lake for livelihood, a cleanliness drive was conducted at Konchak Heibungyangbi Salam Maril under the supervision of Mayang Imphal MLA Kongkham Robindro today .

The MLA borne the expenses for the cleanliness drive .

Talking to media persons, social activist Akham Chaoba from Konchak Heibungyangbi said that the 7 km long waterway was blocked by phumdis and other materials thereby causing difficulties to around 150 families of Konchak Heibungyangbi, Thana Awang Leikai, Yangbi Muslim and nearby localities .

He said that the waterway serves as a main route for the people of the areas, who are mainly fishermen, farmer and vegetable sellers .

The social activist on behalf of the villagers thanked the MLA for providing assistance in cleaning the waterway.
