Imphal, September 01 2014: Along with inaugurating the 118th Irawat Month Celebration, Irawat Celebration Committee observed the Farmers' Demand Day at Keishampat Lairembi Community Hall, Imphal West today.

As part of the observance, a sit-in-protest was staged which was participated by N Mangi, president of Manipur Loumi Lup; L Thoiren, assistant secretary of CPI Manipur State Unit; L Iboyaima, secretary member of CPI Manipur State Unit; L Sotinkumar, Irawat Celebration Committee and several other members of Manipur Loumi Lup.

The observance also decided to place certain demands before the government.

The demands included commission of an inquiry into Loktak phumdi clearance; re-modernization of dams, canals and barrages to facilitate works of farmers; availing of PDS items to the people; proper implementation of Food Security Act; enforcement of Inner Line permit System and repeal of AFSPA among others.
