Rescued tortoise released

Noney, August 11 2021:
An Asian Forest tortoise (scientific name - Manouria emys) or Asian brown tortoise (Leikang Thengu) was rescued by a student leader named TR Philemon of Longchai village in the evening of August 10 .
The endangered species is about 20kg in weight.
It was released into the community forest of the village on Wednesday after consulting Tamenglong DFO Kh Hitler Singh.
The releasing event was attended by Longchai Village Authority chairman Athui Gonmei and other local youth leaders.
It may be mentioned that Longchai village, Rangkekiulong village and Sibilong village harbour three or four species of hornbill.
The area is rich in biodiversity.
