Dimapur, September 10 2014:
While deliberating on the issue of Nagaland Total Prohibition Act, 1989, a consultative meeting was held with various tribe organisations based in Nagaland state under the aegis of Naga Hoho expressed their views that the said Act has brought more harm than good, and a complete failure to implement the Act.
The NLTP Act has become a mockery which has brought about the existence of syndicates, gangsters, drug addicts and acknowledged the fact that the prohibition Act has unreasonably escalated the prices of liquor while the quality of liquor which is circulating in the black market is of inferior quality bringing serious health concerns.
Ascertaining both merits and demerits, the Naga Hoho unanimously resolved to urge upon the state Government to review the Act at the earliest in the interest of common Naga people.
After extensive deliberations and opinions expressed by various tribal bodies on NSDZ, the meeting came to a conclusion that, the current set of Resolution passed by the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on March 24, 2014, needs further debate and modification.
The consultative meeting also discussed on the issue of Nagaland Special Development Zone (NSDZ) .
