AMSU, district committee demands upgradation of Jiri College
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), district committee, Jiribam has demanded upgradation of the Jiri-aided College to a full fledged college today.
A statement issued by the union has further warned of intense agitation in case the State Government fails to announce Jiri College as a full fledged college by the end of October.
Sanitary campaign rally
Yairipok Municipal Council ward no 3 and ward no 4 Development Committee members took out a rally on sanitary campaign under Swachh Bharat Mission across areas under the jurisdiction of the council today, our correspondent reports.
Yairipok locals along with Yairipok Municipal Council ward no 3 Councillor and Chairperson Keisham Rupachandra Singh and ward no 4 Councillor and vice-chairperson Laishram Haripriyari Devi took part in today's rally.
Sit-in-protest staged
Students of Wabagai High School staged a sit-in-protest against the lack of a Head Master at the school today, a statement informed.
The students have warned of intense agitation in hand with DESAM in case the State Government fails to appoint a Head Master for the school before October 12 .
Arms, ammunition recovered
Based on a specific intelligence input about the presence of a weapon cache, 41 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector Assam Rifles and 20 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Hqs IGAR (S) launched an operation at the west of Unapal village and recovered arms and ammunition yesterday.
The arms and ammunition included one AK 47 rifle, one magazine and thirty live rounds, said a press release issued by PRO Hqs IGAR (S) .
Moirang bandh suspended
Following an assurance given by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, Kege Moirang Apunba Lup (KEMAL) has decided to suspend its indefinite Moirang bandh for some time.
In a statement, the organisation said that the assurance was given in a meeting held at the office chamber of the Chief Minister today.
Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam and Moirang AC MLA M Prithviraj were also present at the meeting.
Lecture programme held
24 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Hqs IGAR (S) organised a lecture on insurgency at Sita village today.
Villagers were explained about various steps being undertaken by the Government to bring the youth to the mainstream, said a press release issued by PRO Hqs IGAR (S).
The village authorities were also present during the lecture and appreciated the efforts of Assam Rifles.
The lecture culminated with an interaction of villagers and Assam Rifles personnel, added the press release.
Career counselling
Maram Battalion of Senapati Brigade under the aegis of Red Shield Division conducted a lecture for the students of St Mary's School, Bendramei on October 3 .
The students were assured that the Battalion would leave no stone unturned in providing assistance for preparing the students for joining the armed forces and guidance for the same was provided.
A total of 200 students attended the lecture conducted by the company commander of Sangkhomei, said a press release issued by PIB (DW).
Felicitation programme
The faculty, staff and students of the Department of Physics, Manipur University felicitated Prof RK Garita on being awarded the prestigious UGC Emeritus Fellowship.
The fellowship is given to highly qualified and experienced superannuating professors in recognition of their outstanding academic contribution to give them the opportunity to continue their research activity, said a statement.
Road blockade continues
Thangapat Lambi Demand Committee has said that they will continue to block Wangkhei Thangapat road against the Government's failure to revamp the said road.
In a statement, the committee said that they would block Wangkhei Kongba road as well to intensify their stir from October 8 .
Staff quarter inaugurated
High Court of Manipur Chief Justice, Justice Lakshmi Kanta Mohapratap inaugurated a court staff and official quarter along with a security barrack at Moreh court complex today in the presence of High Court of Manipur Justice N Koteshwor and Ksh Nobin.
