Imphal, October 27 2015: Election for 26 Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats barring Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) is likely to be held in the first week of January next year.

In tandem with the approval given by MAHUD Department for holding election of Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats who terms are expiring, SDO's who would conduct the election have published electoral rolls of their respective areas yesterday.

Altogether 18 Municipal Councils and eight Nagar Panchayats are likely to go to polls in the first week of January.

The State Election Commission has already started necessary preparations for the election, informed a source.

As for the IMC, the incumbent Councillors have their tenure till May next year.

A CLP meeting held recently discussed about whether candidates who would contest the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat election should represent political parties or not.
