Imphal, March 15 2013 :
A one-day youth leadership programe was jointly organised today by United Committee Manipur (UCM) and the Meitei Council Moreh (MCM) at the latter's office.
The youth leadership programme was held at Moreh in view of the momentous roles of social activists in the border town.
The programme was graced by UCM president Y Nabachandra and MCM president M Thoiba as presidium members.
Giving the key-note address UCM general secretary Joychandra Konthoujam remarked that Moreh is often seen as a mini-India in view of different communities and ethnic groups settled there for long.
Majority of the residents of Moreh are dependent on trade and commerce for their livelihood and Moreh itself is evolving into a major commercial centre.
Joychandra said that civil society organisations have been shouldering heavy responsibilities in their efforts to maintain sound administration.
It is essential for the youth, volunteers and women groups to dissect Government policies and programmes and also monitor how funds meant for development works are being utilised, he said.
