Imphal, April 01, 2013:
Taking advantage of a Thabal Chongba programme in the area, gold worth Rs 2 lakh had been stolen from a jewellery shop at Keibi Heikakmapal Awang Leikai, under Lamlai Police Station, Imphal East on the night of March 30 last.
Owner of the shop, Nameirakpam Ratan (31) of Keibi Heikakmapal Awang Leikai, told Hueiyen Lanpao that on that fateful day, he was busy at his shop whole day.
However, he closed his shop little earlier than usual and helped the local club members in organising a Marathon race.
After the Marathon, he forgot to bring the gold from his shop to his home and left it in his shop unlike other days.
When he opened the shop the next day, he found the wall of the shop broken and the box in which the gold was stored opened.
Local people informed that the fuses of the electric transformer in the locality were found removed by the suspected thieves.
Walls of a grocery shop and a hotel were also found tampered.
However, nothing was found stolen from the two shops.
