Upendra probe extended

The State Government has extended the Upendra Commission hearing upto January 10 next year.
The Commission was to finish its healing by December 15 earlier.
The extension order was issued today, said a reliable source.
Meanwhile it is reliably learnt that officials concerned particularly of the Home Department in the Civil Secretariat are busy searching for the documents to specify whether the Assembly resolutions to protect the territorial integrity of the State were despatched to the Centre or not.
The Government will furnish information to the Commission on the matter tomorrow.

Noted Manipuri Nat Sankritana exponent Leimapokpam Lakhpati Singh has been selected for this year's Akademi Award by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.
The Guru Gulapi Nat Sankritana Academy, Kwakeithel Nganappithong has thanked the Sangeet Natak Akademi for selecting Lakhpati for the award and expressed hope that the Akademi will continue giving recognition to other State artistes.

AMWJU has protested the assault of Implicit Free Press reporter K Rajen Sharma by RIMS director Dr N Bijoy inside the latter's office chamber while the reporter was on duty on December 1.In a statement, the scribes' union said that it is not fully satisfied with the regret tendered by Dr Bijoy and sought an apology and assurance from him that such incidents will not recur.

Ministry of Rural Development has released Rs 26.23 lakhs to the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Imphal West for expenditures to be incurred on implementation of wastelands development project during 2001-02, according to a press release.
The fund is being released by Department of Land Resources for implementation of Integrated Wastelands Development Programme (IWDP), Drought Prone Areas Programme (DPAP) and Desert Development Programme (DDP) for development of wastelands/ degraded lands under the guidelines for watershed development.

People for Animals, Thoubal will organize a campaign for the protection of wild animals and prevention of torture of domestic animals at Serou, Sugnu, Waikhong, Kakching Khunou, Wangoo, Wabagai, Kakching, Sekmaijin, Pallel, Sora, Tentha, Thoubal, Lilong, Yairipok, Wangjing and many other places from December 5 to 12, a statement said.

Four women delegates from Manipur participated in the recently held 4 day 6th national conference of All India Democratic Women's Association at Vishakhapatnam said a release of All Manipur Democratic Women Association.
The delegates expressed strong concern over POTO and highlighted the hunger strike by Sharmila at the conference.

It had also organized a free diabetes awareness cum checkup camp at the Chamber of Commerce Hospital & Research Centre, Thangal Bazar on December 2.It had also conducted a free Tubectomy camp at Moreh on November 25.
